Minibus or car with a booked seat
You book the seat in advance, the price is fixed, and you know when and where you leave from. GeoArm Taxi leaves Tbilisi every day at: 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00; departure point: Tbilisi — Ortachala (Hotel Takhlaura, in front of the bus station). From Yerevan: 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00; departure point: Yerevan — Railway station. It suits people who want a set time and certainty and no queue for a ticket.
Public bus and marshrutka
They leave the bus stations several times a day; some only when they are full. The price is low, but a seat and an exact departure time are not guaranteed.
Train
The overnight train takes about 10 hours and runs every other day; a ticket costs roughly 115–220 GEL depending on the class. Border control happens at night. It suits people who are not in a hurry and like night trains. The timetable changes with the season — check the railway's site.
Plane
The flight is under an hour, but getting to the airport, check-in and the ride into town add up to 3–4 hours — almost as long as going by car. It is the most expensive way.
Private transfer
The whole vehicle just for you, door to door. Online platforms price it per vehicle. At GeoArm Taxi the whole-vehicle price is: sedan — 400 ₾, minivan — 450 ₾, minibus — 900 ₾.
Border and documents
Cars cross the border at Sadakhlo–Bagratashen. You need a passport or — depending on your citizenship — a national ID card. Luggage is checked in the country you are entering. The time at the border depends on the queue. More about the border.
